Star put on her tight baby tee and baggy jeans and looked into the mirror. ‘this should do’ she thought, putting on the new Green Day cd, Nimrod on. There was another hour till the guys picked them up, so she concentrated on her History homework. Unfortunately for her, the paper was about the discussion that went on in History class on the last day before break. The one she had zoned out of.
Leafing through the large textbook, she struggled to write about World War II. Finally, the paper was finished, and Star closed the book in relief.
“World War II” an unknown voice behind Star read outloud. Immediatly knowing who the voice belonged to, she spun around.
“How long have you been here?” she questioned
“Geez, its not like its hard to come in without you being noticed. I swear your speakers are going to blow if you turn it up any louder.”
“Taylor...” she said putting her paper in the five star binder, “I don’t wanna fight right now”
“Hey, who said anything about a fight” he said wrapping his arms around her.
“Taylor, we have to go” She protested, but he interrupted. “Where’s the Love?”
Star turned around in his arms, facing him. “Do you know how corny that was?”
“Corny enough for you to kiss me?” he slyly replied.
“Come on Romeo” she said, breaking his embrace and started pulling him out the door.
“No....” he protested.
“Hey guys, let’s go” Star said, seeing everyone was ready. “What were you guys doing? it’s been forever since Tay said he’d get you” Isaac questioned. “Something you don’t wanna know” Taylor replied opening the car door for Star.
“Whatever” Isaac said, rolling his eyes and starting the ignition.
They arrived at the party around 10:30. “Geez, Ross picked a pretty cool place” Ike said, observing the party. Ross’s parents had agreed to let him rent a place for a party since it was New Year’s. One of his advantages of being an only child.
“Lets dance!!” Star exclaimed, grabbing Taylor with her. Zac and Christine laughed and joined along. But Isaac stayed behind and sat at one of the tables. Savage Garden’s “I want you” was currently playing and Star danced her heart out. Lip synching along with the music, she mouthed ‘I want you’ and pointed playfully at Taylor.
Taylor’s heart skipped a beat with the music. He danced closer to her. She brushed her hand across his face as she danced along with him.
“I can’t wait till a slow song plays” he whispered into her ear. As if on cue, the fast music was quickly replaced with “Stairway to Heaven”
“I love this song” Star said smiling, “looks like your slow dance wish came true” “Yup” Taylor said wrapping his arms around her. Embracing his neck, she slowly followed his lead.
“You know whats bad about this song?” Star asked, looking up at him.
“What?” he asked.
“The song’s so long and you’re so tall,” she said, “which kills my back”
“Well the song’s going to end in about 2 minutes” Taylor said laughing.
“good,” she replied.
The song finally ended and the two decided to sit down for a while.
“Want something to drink?” Taylor offered sweetly.
“Sure, thanks Tay”
“Tired?” Isaac asked looking at Star.
“Yeah, I forgot how long “Stairway to Heaven” was” she replied, “look at those two!!” Star exclaimed looking at Zac and Christine. The two of them were dancing with each other like crazy and just having a good time.
“Here we go!” Taylor said, sitting down and giving them their drinks. “Thanks”
“Man, its almost twelve!” Isaac exclaimed, looking at his watch. Just then, they all heard the countdown and started chanting along. “5-4-3-2-1!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!”
The room exploded with noise and everyone started kissing each other. Taylor grabbed Star and gave her a long kiss. Finally pulling away, she looked dazed, and was smiling after. “LETS GO OUTSIDE!!” Taylor shouted over the crowd. She nodded, seeing shouting would not help.
