Tossing, turning. It wasn’t working out. For the past week Star had been sleeping and not doing much. Everyone else in her house was sound asleep, faint snoring in the background. There wasn’t much to do at 3 in the morning. Sighing, she put on some clothes and went outside. She didn’t know where she was going, what she was doing, but the air made her feel a little bit better.
Star finally stopped, seeing a hill that looked like it extended into the sky in the moonlight. She laid down, looking up at the clear sky. The constellations were all sparkling magnificently, beaming down at her. The dipper, the bright shining star at the tip of it. Seeing all this made memories of New Years come flooding back. It was so simple then, nothing seemed to break the bubble Taylor and her had been in.

Taylor trudged along, following the same path that he had followed since their breakup. He had discovered a hill that was so beautiful at night, with the stars everywhere. It gave him a place to think. He started kicking an empty pepsi can, but soon got bored and crushed it. Going out and walking at 3 in the morning was beginning to feel like a ritual to him. It was so peaceful, so solitary.
Little things were always on his mind, the way she and him had argued, the laughs they shared. It was such a surprise to him how everything made this mind go back to Star. He would go look at a book and his mind would reel back to New Years, when Star did that History report. Funny how little things can make such an impact. He breathed in, smelling the sweet smell of the stray flowers nearby the hill.
Taylor stopped, seeing a figure laid down on the small hill. He sharply breathed in, realizing it was Star. It was at that exact moment he knew that this was the time. The moment that he had been planning to express how he felt after Ike said those words. The moment was now. He stopped picking up one of the stray daisies that was nearby.
Star was intrigued and wrapped up in her thoughts, but was interrupted when she felt a shadow hover over her. It was Tay.
“Hi” he said, both confident and nervous.
“Hey” she managed to say, this time controlling herself and even a bit happier he was there.
“Look” Taylor cut right to the chase, “I really like you with all my heart and ever since you left I felt so empty and sad. I really have strong feelings for you, Star” There, it was out in the open. His heart was poured out in front of her. Now all he had to wait for was her response.
“I don’t know Taylor. It just seemed when you said Mercury forced you to break up that you didn’t care, and I thought you didn’t do anything about it and just was like, “Oh well”
Taylor interrupted, “I was fighting for a long time and it was like everyone was telling me to break up. I guess my worst judgement got the best of me” his voice grew softer.
Star’s eyes saw how genuine his were and she spoke again. “This still ends up in breakup, Tay. If I go out with you, then your career would be shattered. I don’t want to take that responsiblity”
“Lets play a game then” he said, pulling out a stack of cards from his cords.
“What?” Star said, confused.
“Pick a card” he said insistantly. Star knew what was happening now, the childish card game she had taught him so long ago was now holding their fate.
“Ace” she showing the card.
“Five. Guess you win” he said sadly.
Star smiled. “Isn’t five bigger than one?”
The infectious smile she wore on her face spread to Taylor, who embraced her into a tight hug. Tears of joy stung in his eyes, blurring his vision. He didn’t care, she was back. After another long hug, Star pulled away. “Lets just look at the stars”
“Okay, I don’t care what we do as long as its with you”
The two of them looked up at the same star. “What were you going to do if I got a bigger card?” Star asked.
“I would just use up what I won last time we played that game” he grinned. “By the way, this is for you” he handed her the daisy.
“Thanks”
The two of them held each other for the longest time, enjoying each others company that was gone for the past two months. They fell asleep around 5 in the morning, still tightly wrapped around each other.
